Living with human encroachment: Status and distribution of Green Peafowl in northern stronghold of Thailand

Green Peafowl have declined significantly across much of their historical range mostly due to habitat loss and degradation following intensive agricultural expansion, logging infrastructure development. In Thailand, two strongholds remain, in the west north. While western stronghold has been extensively investigated is well protected, status species northern remain unknown. This distributed over at least four contiguous protected areas surrounded by landscapes, where conflict with farmers recently reported. The aims this work are 1) investigate species’ stronghold, 2) define use within outside areas, 3) provide management suggestions for long-term survival. Our results showed a high probability occurrence (>0.5) areas. Using Distance sampling 54 transects, 2 km long, located interior, edge agriculture landscape, we estimated density 15.82 calling males/km2 whole densities ranging from 13.55 19.89 separately.
